a project manager in Kabale, Uganda has been so rewarding through LMH.</span></p><p><span style="font-family: "Times New Roman", serif; font-size: 12pt;">If
you have read my blogs, you know that I have helped with tea farms, starting a
chicken business, overseeing an executive hotel amongst other things. All of
which I am extremely proud.</span></p><p><span style="font-family: "Times New Roman", serif; font-size: 12pt;">On

a year absence due to the pandemic, I was finally able to return to Uganda to
complete my mission service. It wasn’t easy to leave my dad (age 89)
again, but I know he is proud of me and supports me.</span></p><p class="MsoNormal"></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjA63iC8h8QIHbNui32FvmnsC6TKkK4eKITh_5aPteSLpz9urxj-4_IwAYsxu39kLKGnpdg77719e8vPtUp9uBZRlLYe7SwiAPmPVhXNRELyOvZnd0POWH2ZnrtLbDgEKPUPKtWSmYijE48/s2016/June2021A.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2016" data-original-width="1504" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjA63iC8h8QIHbNui32FvmnsC6TKkK4eKITh_5aPteSLpz9urxj-4_IwAYsxu39kLKGnpdg77719e8vPtUp9uBZRlLYe7SwiAPmPVhXNRELyOvZnd0POWH2ZnrtLbDgEKPUPKtWSmYijE48/s320/June2021A.jpeg" /></a></div><span style="font-family: "Times New Roman", serif; font-size: 12pt;">One
of the projects I manage is the tea farm. Profits from the sale of tea helps
support several important ministries in the Diocese of Kabale. I was
pleased to discover that in spite of the pandemic and all of the hardships they
experienced, the workers continued to work in the farm and the plants are
thriving. This is a great partnership: the workers do all they can to
help nurture and maintain the plants and with my ability to create a budget,
plan and supervise, we are able to optimize the tea farm to make it profitable
for the Diocese.</span><p></p><p class="MsoNormal"></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiy95LD7ihxQS-QVV6qRlIVWcaK0LQvAP-lBSmZtWR7KUYWKlEFJoJg3V-1hhGLHmpl7byz_4a5T2c60158mK41Eup-3_oEukGo7CKbaTpO2NHH1j0E0ixHmTj9lK_bu4sjvFi7J0hAyQ-W/s2048/June2021A.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiy95LD7ihxQS-QVV6qRlIVWcaK0LQvAP-lBSmZtWR7KUYWKlEFJoJg3V-1hhGLHmpl7byz_4a5T2c60158mK41Eup-3_oEukGo7CKbaTpO2NHH1j0E0ixHmTj9lK_bu4sjvFi7J0hAyQ-W/s320/June2021A.jpg" /></a></div><span style="font-family: "Times New Roman", serif; font-size: 12pt;">Note:

formation program and my mission service has changed my very being. My vision
of God's great universe will never be the same. I have grown intellectually,
spiritually, and have a greater idea of what true empathy is.</span></p><p><span style="font-family: "Times New Roman", serif; font-size: 12pt;">I
have found great passion and joy in my daily tasks. Whether I am raising
chickens or managing tea farms the daily journey is rewarding. Before I only
cared about results.</span><span style="font-family: "Times New Roman", serif; font-size: 12pt;"> </span><span style="font-family: "Times New Roman", serif; font-size: 12pt;">The passion of the
daily journey is the key, the results will follow.</span></p><p><span style="font-family: "Times New Roman", serif; font-size: 12pt;">Covid
tried to interfere with my mission and I wasn’t sure if returning to Uganda was
going to be an option.</span><span style="font-family: "Times New Roman", serif; font-size: 12pt;"> </span><span style="font-family: "Times New Roman", serif; font-size: 12pt;">I have been a
substitute teacher in Lincoln Public Schools during my time back in the states.
This wouldn't have been possible without my formation training through Lay
Mission. I cannot see me doing anything else now. My first week teaching I was
assigned to teach 6th grade a course on “Humanities”.</span><span style="font-family: "Times New Roman", serif; font-size: 12pt;"> </span><span style="font-family: "Times New Roman", serif; font-size: 12pt;">I spent five days going over five
religions.</span><span style="font-family: "Times New Roman", serif; font-size: 12pt;"> </span><span style="font-family: "Times New Roman", serif; font-size: 12pt;">Hinduism, Buddhism, Judaism,
Christianity, and Islam.</span><span style="font-family: "Times New Roman", serif; font-size: 12pt;"> </span><span style="font-family: "Times New Roman", serif; font-size: 12pt;">My four months
in the formation program teachings, allowed me to shine as I taught this 6th
grade class.</span></p><p><span style="font-family: "Times New Roman", serif; font-size: 12pt;">God
works in different ways.</span></p><p><span style="font-family: "Times New Roman", serif; font-size: 12pt;">I
really don't get concerned about the little things anymore, peace is a
beautiful thing! God's will has spoken again and my journey has not ended. I
will return to Kabale, Uganda on May 26, for one more year. I look forward to
my continued education, Kabale has taught me soooooo much.</span></p><p><span style="font-family: "Times New Roman", serif; font-size: 12pt;">I
kinda really love Matthew, I think he makes a difference wherever he is, that
was not the case before LMH and Uganda. I have learned as in 1Samuel 16:7 “The
Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward
appearance but the Lord looks at the heart”.</span></p><p><span style="font-family: "Times New Roman", serif; font-size: 12pt;">Peace
is a beautiful thing.</span></p>Matthew Kadavyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16149706716295529176noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-761611280760492353.post-37442580180377497632021-01-08T12:11:00.000-08:002021-01-08T12:11:21.430-08:00Come To the Pearl of Africa<p> </p><p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal; margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0in;"><span style="font-family: "Times New Roman",serif; font-size: 12.0pt;">Kabale,
Uganda is one of the most beautiful places in the world. Winston Churchill
called Uganda the pearl of Africa, and Kabale the Switzerland. In January 2019
I arrived in this peaceful community and I was welcomed with open arms. My

would I find, how would the projects be doing, chickens, tea, hotel, apples? I
found the Chickens in perfect health, everyone accounted for, the Kabale
environment and Martin were a perfect match. Father Leo Kosch taught a man to
fish and fed him for a lifetime. <o:p></o:p></div>

I found the tea farms continuing
to flourish, the record tea production was not only maintained but was far
exceeding goals. Herbert, John, and Lydia received 5 gold coins and returned
10, as scriptures writes the master was pleased. Humble Matthew was encouraged,
enlightened, and moved. When Matthew left the record was 2,400 kilo grams per
day, it is now 4,000 kilo grams per day. My four brothers know how competitive
I am, Jesus knows how to humble his servants and this Nebraska boy is one
proud, humble, inspired human. Thank You Jesus (as Damian Kabot always
proclaims upon success).</div>

As Project Manager for the
Diocese, I am working on several projects.
Financial goals are different for each project. Some projects must provide
big-time financial gains for the diocese to thrive and serve the people. The number
of God's people we serve keeps growing at a strong rate. At a minimum, we must
have income producing projects that keep pace with that growth. Ideally we need
to far exceed that target in order to offer more services. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
In the USA our tithe from parishioners
greatly increases when more people enter God's grace and join our diocese. Here
in Uganda, an increase in parish size doesn't increase the funds we have
available for service needs. In many cases, it actually lowers the actual
funding per person. I know this doesn't always make sense in the American
way of thinking, but let me share a short story of what I have discovered in my
journey into the Kabale villages. </div>

Here in Uganda, many families are
large. I toured many villages and sometimes they have 7-10 children
per household. They farm the land and raise livestock; lots of chickens and
goats, the lucky ones have pigs and the really fortunate have cattle. As
these families grow they increase the farming area and raise additional
livestock. It is quite enlightening how they welcome each child as a gift
from God. The churches are packed full not only on Sundays but at many Masses
and events during the week. The happiness in the hearts of these families are
simply inspiring to me. Those with the least appear to be the happiest. I
have thought to myself, it is their faith that makes them happy. What
they lack in resources they make up for in joy, family unity, and faith.<o:p></o:p></div>

Back to finances and my projects,
these families tithe what they can, but the amount doesn't go up with each
additional gift of God. Some of these projects must produce more and more

<div class="MsoNormal">
This Blog update is inspired by my daddy, Paul, and my
father-in-law, Allen. What amazing examples of resilience they have shown
me.<o:p></o:p><br />

Both of my fathers grew up in an environment much like I live
in now, in Uganda. Paul grew up on a farm with very few resources, no indoor
plumbing, the food was either planted and raised, foraged or hunted.
They wasted nothing, worked hard, and cooked with wood as their source of
fuel. </div>

Allen grew up in a small town. His father died very
young and his sister was killed in a car accident, yet he never waivered or
lost faith. I wish I could say the same when Cari, my wife of 30 years, died at
age 52. </div>

<div class="MsoNormal">
My newest faith journey has begun. I have arrived on the
sacred soil of Uganda, Africa. My new home is located in the fertile mountains
of Kabale. I am simply amazed at how green and productive the agriculture is here.
All our food comes farm to table. The banana plantations are enormous. Lake
Victoria is one of the great wonders of the world, and it produces many fish
for the people. Cattle, goats, and chickens are free range raised. Watermelon,
pineapple, cabbage and carrots are plentiful.<o:p></o:p></div>

I walk the mountain roads each morning at day break. I am
greeted by many people starting their daily journey. They inspire me with
their kind greetings and work ethic. Their job may be preparing the soil,
carrying water back to the village, attending school or working in the
city. They do it with a spirit of gratitude.<br />

Please picture this with me. I was walking the many steep
roads this last Sunday morning. The mountains were overcast and full
of a very heavy fog. I could only see 10-12 feet ahead of me and only
two-to-three feet above me. The mountain roads have many trails and small paths
that lead to other homes and villages.</div>

fog, dressed in traditional African attire. Her dress was bright yellow and
looked amazing with her matching hat. She greeted me with a warm Ugandan
smile. <o:p></o:p></div>

My journey went on for an estimated four miles on this
route. The same scenario repeated itself hundreds of times. Many people
appearing out of the fog dressed to perfection, walking four miles, many
much longer, going to Mass at the Cathedral. I was simply amazed to see the
Cathedral full for the 7:30 am service. </div>

I thought I left the richest country in the world. I
was wrong; I landed in it. That Sunday morning, tears came to my eyes. I had
seen Christ on the small trails in the mountains of Kabale, and for the first
time, I walked along-side Him. God chooses the broken to walk with him. I am
and was truly broken. Christ carried me to Kabale. I walked with him on the
mountain trails; I will never be the same. I was called to Kabale, I thought,
to help fix it. It is simply not broken. I was called to Kabale to fix me.
Christ chooses the broken and scarred. He chose me for this mission.<br />
